I created the below outline to showcase the stages of the Product Design Process, and to ensure alignment across departments and get buy-in from leaders throughout the organisation.

Outline

The product design process is the series of steps that a company or individual takes to create a new product or improve an existing one. The exact steps and methods may vary depending on the product, industry, and company, but generally, the product design process can be broken down into the following stages:

  1. Discover: In this stage, the team identifies the problem they are trying to solve, gathers information about the user needs, analyses the competition and market trends, and defines the product's objectives and success criteria.
  2. Define: In this stage, the team generates a variety of possible solutions, using brainstorming, prototyping, and other creative methods. They explore different ideas, create design concepts, and select the most promising ones for further development.
  3. Design: In this stage, the team develops a detailed product design, including the visual and functional aspects of the product. They may create sketches, wireframes, or digital prototypes to test the design and get feedback from users or stakeholders.
  4. Deliver: In this stage, the team delves deeper into the design - aiming for high fidelity UI designs and interactions. They are also involved with the creation of user stories and a number of other UX artefacts. They conduct usability testing, focus groups, surveys, or other methods to gather feedback and refine the product.
  5. Develop: In this stage, the team finalises the products design and prepares it for live deployment. They work with engineering partners to ensure a quality product is launched, including rounds of design/dev pairing and quality checks.
  6. Deploy: In this stage, the team monitors the product's performance and user feedback to identify areas for improvement. They may collect usage data, conduct further user research, or run A/B testing to refine the product and ensure its long-term success.

The product design process is an iterative process, which means that the team may go back and forth between stages as they refine the product and incorporate new information. The goal is to create a product that meets user needs, solves a problem, and is successful in the market.
